Methodology

How do you determine investment recommendations?

Our investment methodology is designed to create a recommendation that matches your Investor Profile. We don't attempt to choose all of the best-performing investments from your plan each quarter because the consequences of unexpected market fluctuations can be detrimental for people using that investment strategy.

Instead we advocate a long-term approach determining an optimal allocation using your tolerance for risk, your retirement goals and time to retirement. To determine your optimal allocation we use the concepts of Modern Portfolio Theory and the Efficient Frontier.

Once we've determined the right mix of asset classes, we select appropriate funds using a proprietary  fund selection method considering manager track record, consistency of performance, performance comparison against benchmarks, risk factors and expenses.

What is Modern Portfolio Theory?

The theory, first published in the 1950s, formalized and advocates the practice of diversifying across a variety of investment types. The chief benefit of diversification is a reduction in portfolio risk - diversification is the opposite of putting all your eggs in one basket.

What is The Efficient Frontier?

An element of Modern Portfolio Theory, financial analysts use this equation to determine which funds that have the highest expected return for a specific level of investment risk.

How often will you change my recommendation?

We believe retirement investing demands a long-term approach, even if you are within a few years of your retirement date. We provide ongoing market-activity monitoring and will notify you via e-mail if a change is necessary. If we deem a change is necessary, we will notify you via email.
